State Street Dragon
Another shot from yesterday's festivities! There are some really creative costumes in the Solstice Parade. This year's theme was "dreams." But, this one looks more like a nightmare.

Where's the Goose?
Today was one of my favorite days of the year!
The Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Celebration.
This is one of the few parades I really try not to
miss.
I like the Big Dogs Parade too, but I really
go to that one to spot Basset Hounds.
Of course, today I was looking for the goose that
produced these eggs, but they wisely must have left her at home. :-D
These eggs are called "Cascarones," and they are a Mexican/Spanish
carnival tradition (they may even have roots in Italy.)
It is customary to break them over your friends' heads.

Now there's somethin you don't see every day!
Ok, maybe it's a little late for Solstice photos. But, it has been hotter lately than the day I took this photo so I was starting to wonder just what season this is.

Summer Solstice
This is my photographic evidence that the summer was way too short. This image was on a roll of film that was still in one of my cameras this week.

Solstice Parade
I have never been crazy about parades.
They have always been something to watch on TV
while my dad and I make Macadamia Nut Stuffing
from a Hawaiian cookbook. Our task on Thanksgiving
while my Mom took care of everything else!
But I must say, since moving to Santa Barbara I have
learned to enjoy one tradition... The "Summer
Solstice Celebration." It is always a really creative
parade held on the Saturday closest to the Summer solstice.
It is, by far, the most enjoyable parade and celebration I
have ever seen.
Oh, by the way, the person in the bird suit is our
Mayor, Marty Blum.

Solstice Giraffes
Not too often you get to see giraffes walking down State Street. This is in honor of the upcoming Summer Solstice Celebration on the 25th. It is by far the best parade in Santa Barbara (or anywhere for that matter :) !
