Elevated Wharf View

One more elevated view of Stearns Wharf. I really liked this spot, but the wind was really picking up so it made me a little nervous to have the camera suspended high above the water. But I'll be back to this spot again in the near future.

Santa Barbara View from Stearns Wharf

Recently I had a request for a cover shot that showed a view of Santa Barbara from Stearns Wharf. I have quite a few Stearns Wharf shots but the client was looking for a daytime shot, and most of my wanderings on the Wharf have been in the evening. This was one of the first shots after I raised the camera in this spot, the sea gull was really interested in the camera. I think he was planning on landing on it. He only thought better of it at the very last second.

Sunset Exercise

Sunset Exercise

I went to the doctor and, big surprise, I have to eat healthier and get more exercise! (should have seen that comin') On the plus side, walking is his recommended way to do that. And I figure, if you're gonna walk, you might as well do it someplace nice!

This is Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara. It is one of the less traveled beaches around here. It is not in an area that you would normally stumble on. And it is our favorite beach. So after making one good pedometer out of two broken ones, we had a nice sunset walk. Oh, I mean... we went out and got some exercise!

Santa Barbara Beach Bums

We have not been seeing the sun much lately. But, it is a beautiful day when we do!

Playing with Dolphins

I'm not totally sure if she was reaching up to hug the dolphin, or she was imagining it jumping through her arms. I think it was the latter. Either way, I can thank my hound dog for the opportunity to capture this scene. I would have slept in if not for the fact that she was in the mood for an uncharacteristic early morning walk.

Sunset Gull

Here are two different croppings of the same image.

I love trying to catch birds in flight and this one was very cooperative! This was during a walk on Leadbetter Beach (one of the main tourist beaches in Santa Barbara, by the Harbor) at sunset right after feeding the seagulls a little bread. (Hey, I have to pay my models! And these guys are smart enough to get payment up front)

The poles sticking up in the air are the masts of small rental catamarans on the beach. And, if your monitor is bright enough to see it, the rectangle on the pole at the right of the smaller image is an array of lights over the sports field at Santa Barbara City College.

Droppin' in for Lunch

I like to feed the Sea Gulls at the beach. This guy was doing his Humming Bird impression.

Hazy Day at the Beach

Hazy Day at the Beach

Well the rain has been crazy, and as I am writing this I have the news on to hear if we have to evacuate. Strange since we do not live very close to anything that you would think would be a problem. But, it seems there is a culvert in the mountains above here (by State Route 154). Well there was a mud/rock slide into the culvert that blocked it. Now there is a lake building up behind the man made berms on the side of what is left of the highway, and I would guess they are not really made to hold eight million gallons of water.

On the up side, the rainy days make for some interesting pictures. I have always loved taking pictures in odd lighting. Noon on a sunny day is the most boring time to take a picture.
