Playful

No one better to take pictures of than childern at play. They haven't learned to be stiff in front of the camera like adults, and this guy was very happy to show off his superhero like jumps for me!

Beach Retriever

A Chocolate Lab playing on Butterfly Beach. As with most Labs this guy was tireless, he could have retrieved that ball all day. As long as I was there watching him he didn't slow down a bit, and it took a family of five to keep up with throwing the ball for him. Dogs are great!

Sunset Dog Run

Dogs always know how to have the most fun, especially at the beach. These guys were racing up and down the beach at Shoreline Park with seemingly infinite energy. Their people, like my wife and I, were more content to just take in the amazing beauty around us.

Sandpiper Lenticular Sunset

On any day Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta is an amazing spot to chase a little white ball around or to just enjoy some of the most beautiful views the Santa Barbara area has to offer. Then there are the really spectacular days, the ones with clouds that have so much texture in the clear air that you're sure you could reach out and touch them. The days with sunsets that stretch color from horizon to horizon. This was absolutely one of those days.

Surf Butterfly Beach

Last week as the high tides were coming in right at sunset the waves really picked up. The tide was so high there wasn't much beach left, but it was great to watch from the sidewalk. Of course there are always the adventurous ones.

Sandpiper Tempest Panorama

An absolutely breathtaking storm rolling in at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta. The sun was still shining brightly around the edges of the storm, but as the rain rolled in that would not last long. The clouds were so close you could almost reach up and touch them.

Golden Shoreline Run

Girls running in the surf on the beach at Shoreline Park. I particularly like the gold water splashing up by their feet. They looked like two sisters enjoying the beach together. They stopped long enough to take in the sunset for a moment, then they were off again splashing in the breaking waves around their feet.

Sandpiper Tempest

This winter has been a wonderful one for beautiful weather. This is one of my favorite spots to make a bee line to in Goleta when I see the sky doing something spectacular. Sandpiper golf course offers a variety of amazing views (and some great golf too). This is right by the clubhouse as the rain was rolling in. I was perfectly dry, but that wouldn't have lasted long.

19th Hole Bar B Que

This is what you need after a long day of Golf. A great Bar-B-Que! This is from the Jordano's Fall Golf Classic from a few weeks ago. Sandpiper is one of the most beautiful golf courses I can imagine, but they have a lot more going than just amazing scenery. The people are friendly and the food is amazing!

Sandpiper Golden Autumn Light

I don't claim to be an expert on Golf Courses. But this has to be one of the most beautiful golf courses around. This is Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta California. I might be a little partial beacuse I spend a lot of time there experimenting with new equipment and techniques. But that's mainly because the people are so welcoming and quite frankly it's hard to take a bad photo there.

Thenth Hole Golden Hour

This is just past the clubhouse at Sandpiper. On the way down the path by the tenth fairway. I went out recently to get some sunset Sandpiper Golf Course shots for a project, this was one of the first shots of the evening, as you can see it was an amazing evening and a wonderful place to spend it!

Tenth Hole Tee Off

A shot from the tee at the tenth hole of Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta, California. In the distance is the green and water hazard of the 18th hole, with the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Barbara Channel islands in the background. And amzing spot for a great shot (and a nice picture too).

Swirling Sandpiper Sunset

Yet more wonderful winter sunsets at Sandpiper. The clouds never fail to amaze me. Sometimes they march across the sky like my last time lapse at Sandpiper, like they are on a mission. Other times like this evening they swirl and move in such amazing fluid motions that it looks like someone has dipped their fingers into them and is playing with them like the surface of a beautiful pond.

Sandpiper Sunset Across the 15th Fairway

Sandpiper Sunset Across the 15th Fairway

Just past the 15th tee on the Sandpiper Golf course is a wonderful spot to be this time of day. When the sun is casting a golden light on the landscape, and the shadows of the small trees on the bluff are reaching all the way across the fairway there is no more enjoyable place to spend time.

I GOT IT!!

I GOT IT!!

I have been around a lot of dogs in my life. And yet, they never cease to amaze me with their capacity for all of the best traits we would love to see in each other. For a while I thought I had just had the incredible good fortune to have encountered a few outstanding individuals. I mean, I have seen my share of dogs that are "problem dogs," untrained and unpleasant to be around. But, the dogs that have been members of my family have had something about them. Something that made them seem like real beings capable of much more than a simple submissive role. They actually had something to contribute to the family, and they were given the opportunity to express themselves and become the true friends they wanted to be.

Now that I am finally owned by the Basset Hound I have dreamed of for 15 years I am starting to realize that perhaps there was not as much "special" about our dogs as I originally thought. Perhaps every dog has that spark of greatness in them, and it is up to us to nurture it... or to tie it out in the back yard and throw really bad kibble at it until even the greatest spirit would shrivel.

What are you still doing reading this, go hug your dog!!
(or better yet take them for a romp in the park!)

Don't have a dog!?

Perhaps I can help...
