Harbor View Sunset

Harbor View Sunset

The Santa Barbara Harbor about a half hour after a beautiful summer sunset. This year has been one of the driest on record, but several Pacific hurricanes have supplied us with enough of these beautiful wispy evening clouds to put on quite an unseasonable show. This particular day had a wonderful parade of high clouds all day giving me a good hint that the evening would be beautiful. And I couldn't think of a better place to spend the warm evening than walking on the breakwater at the Harbor with my best friend.

Evening Over Stearns Wharf

Evening Over Stearns Wharf

A nice cool evening out on Stearns Wharf. This is one of my favorite times to be out on the wharf. Most of the shops have closed and the only people out are fishermen or the restaurant patrons heading back to their cars. Of course it's a little harder to get ice cream and candy at this time... but the parking is free!

Carmel Mission Twilight

Carmel Mission Twilight

Sometimes the show is just starting when the crowds leave. This weekend I saw some of the biggest crowds I've ever seen at the Carmel Mission ( Mission San Carlos Borroméo del río Carmelo ) in Carmel by the Sea. From weddings to tourists and even the occasional church service this beautiful gem of Spanish and Moorish architecture is well loved and often visited. But this evening after the sun set and the last people were leaving the parking lot, I stopped by with my camera. Only the faintest color of the sunset remained on the horizon, and the stars were clearly visible overhead. But a slightly longer than usual exposure revealed all the beauty of the misson at rest in its faint lights after a long day of festivities and worship.

Carmel Mission Garden Sunset

The gardens at the Carmel Mission. The mission just underwent a major restoration and only recently shrugged off the massive scaffolding around the main sanctuary. It's looking even more beautiful than ever thanks to the dedicated people who are preserving this beautiful landmark!

Evening Over Alice Keck Park

Evening Over Alice Keck Park

This is Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens, one of the most amazing spots right in the middle of downtown Santa Barbara. At one point they wanted to turn this piece of land into a very large condo development. Fortunately thanks to some dedicated people, we have a place only a couple blocks from our main city street, State Street where you can enjoy a retreat from the concrete and steel (or in our case the stucco and red tile roofs).

19th Hole Bar B Que

This is what you need after a long day of Golf. A great Bar-B-Que! This is from the Jordano's Fall Golf Classic from a few weeks ago. Sandpiper is one of the most beautiful golf courses I can imagine, but they have a lot more going than just amazing scenery. The people are friendly and the food is amazing!

Elevated Wharf View

One more elevated view of Stearns Wharf. I really liked this spot, but the wind was really picking up so it made me a little nervous to have the camera suspended high above the water. But I'll be back to this spot again in the near future.

Santa Barbara View from Stearns Wharf

Santa Barbara View from Stearns Wharf

Recently I had a request for a cover shot that showed a view of Santa Barbara from Stearns Wharf. I have quite a few Stearns Wharf shots but the client was looking for a daytime shot, and most of my wanderings on the Wharf have been in the evening. This was one of the first shots after I raised the camera in this spot, the sea gull was really interested in the camera. I think he was planning on landing on it. He only thought better of it at the very last second.

Tenth Hole Tee Off

A shot from the tee at the tenth hole of Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta, California. In the distance is the green and water hazard of the 18th hole, with the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Barbara Channel islands in the background. And amzing spot for a great shot (and a nice picture too).

Whale's Eye View at the Wharf

Did you ever wonder if it was possible to have an aquarium so big you could keep a pet whale? It would seem I'm not the only one who ponders these things. This is the Ty Warner Sea Center on Stearns Wharf. They have created a wonderful place to learn about the ocean and its inhabitants, as well as a home with an amazing view for a beautiful whale.

A view of the Jordanos Foodservice showroom, one of my favorites. A little bit different perspective gives an excellent overview.

The Santa Barbara Unitarian Society in VR

The courtyard behind the El Paseo restaurant in Santa Barbara is one of thoes little jewels just off the beaten path in Santa Barbara that most people walk within 50 feet of without ever knowing it's there. This is actually an older shot that was originally published as a still image because the fountain itself was so beautiful. But sometimes it's fun to go back and play with the images a little and make something new.

Santa Barbara Breakwater Sunset

Santa Barbara Breakwater Sunset

Sunset above the Santa Barbara Breakwater. I like the way this photo shows the shelter of the breakwater as your view moves across the beautiful waves on the outside to the small ripples in the harbor. Either way the water is beautiful!

Santa Barbara Mission and the Big Dipper

Santa Barbara Mission and the Big Dipper

Queen of the Missions under the stars. The evening I took this last week, I was actually trying to get anohter shot down at the beach. On the way home I thought I would stop at the mission to see what things looked like there. It was a little dark, but I decided to see what I could get anyway. I'm glad I did. The stars in this shot were rather inspiring for some new ideas I'll be working on.

Harbor View Panorama

The Santa Barbara Harbor, a great place to be whether you have a boat or not. Aside from the great selection of restaurants, it's a wonderful place to just wander and enjoy the ocean and the views of the city.

Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church 360 degree Panorama

Santa Barbara is the city of red tile rooves. But there are a few creative variations. This beautiful BLUE tiled roof building is the Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in the hills above Santa Barbara.

Pacifica Graduate Institute Elevated Evening View

An elevated view of the Pacifica Graduate Institute Lambert Road campus. This beautiful campus just south on the 101 from Santa Barbara is a wonderful place to continue your education. I can't think of a better environment to concentrate on your studies.

Evening At Alice's Garden 360 degree Panorama

At the end of a wonderful evening of photography, I found myself driving by Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens. The look of the glowing lights with the remaing glow of the sunset were enough to make me circle the block to think about what kind of a view I could get. I was glad I stopped. This is from about 20 feet above the edge of the duckpond, looking down on the pond and the gazebo.
