Oregon Garden Bench
The Oregon Garden in Silverton is a wonderful eighty acre botanical garden in Silverton Oregon. This beautiful stone bench is a favorite spot for me to explore with my camera. This particular day I was experimenting with my Infrared camera, which gave the garden a wonderful winter scene feel.

Whale Tail Golden Hour
Sitting on the whale tail bench enjoying the sunset with my best friend. There are actually two of these beautiful benches next to each other, we were sitting on the other one. These beautiful benches are by Bud Bottoms, the creator of our wonderful "Dolphin Family" fountinan at the base of Stearns Wharf.

Panoramic Santa Barbara
Panoramic view of Santa Barbara from Santa Barbara City College. On the right you can see the Santa Barbara Harbor and Stearns Wharf. All the way on the left peeking out from under the fronds is the Santa Barbara Courthouse Clock Tower.

Santa Barbara Mission Millstone
I'm always wandering around the Santa Barbara Mission looking for a new angle or a veiw that I have not noticed before. This was at the end of a long day of shooting, as the last glow of the sunset was slipping behind the mission. These pepper trees are a beautiful part of the look of the mission and they are prominent in many of my photos. The interesting details I love about this shot are the old millstone and the stone bench under the pepper tree.

Dinner at La Purisima
Although our Santa Barbara Mission has a wonderful historic tour with some authentic artifacts, there is nothing quite like spending some time in a mission where they have painstakingly restored and recreated on a large scale what the day to day life must have been like when the missions were the full communities they were designed to be. La Purisima offers the space and flexibility to almost step into the past. It is a wonderful experience.

Point Pinos Lighthouse, VR
This beautiful little lighthouse apparently is the oldest confinuously operating lighthouse on
the west coast. It's on the northern tip of the Monterey pennisula
just in from a stretch of beach that is a wonderful spot to watch the sunset.

Mission Portico 360° VR
This is an image that took a while to process. One slice of it was a previous photo of the day. But I wanted to finish the whole view. This is standing on the portico (long patio behind the archways) at the Mission Santa Barbara. This is a series of long exposures just after sunset. It was a beautiful evening to get a little different perspective on the Mission. With a little luck I'll get some time in the next week or two to spend some more time in the mission gardens to get some shots for an upcoming project. If I do you'll see them here first!

Lamp at the Church of the Wayfarer
Today we tried to stop at the Carmel Bakery after getting
to Monterey for the weekend. But we got there ten minutes
too late. Bummer!
While we were driving around looking for a parking space (which
I'm thinking took just a bit over ten minutes!) my wife pointed out this beautiful lantern
as we passed the Church of the Wayfarer.
I just happen to carry my camera
almost everywhere these days so we had a nice walk
and got a few night shots of the Church and had a great time
anyway.

SBCC Stearns Wharf View
Saturday was a beautiful day. We had the opportunity to wander around and enjoy the sunset. Which is one of the things I like to do as much as possible this time of year. This was the view from Santa Barbara City College just a bit before sunset. Sometimes my images are totally controlled and I have a plan for exactly what I'm looking for. In this case I stared with a shot from the pathway that you see. The streetlights were not very interesting looking. But after I got what I was looking for I took a walk around to see what I might be missing. I thought the path looked nice so I got a few shots, but even then I did not notice that the lights were already on. It was only after I got home and looked through the pictures that I saw the glow in the lights and decided this was one of my favorite images.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish 360° view
Back to Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Montecito.
This was actually the first image I took with my
new panoramic tripod head. But as I mentioned in an
earlier post it took me a bit of time to finish all
of the shots and in the time it took the light had
changed quite a bit. I did not think I was going to be
able to stitch it together right. But now that I have had
a little practice I was able to get it to work.
Of course that brought up some new problems. The image
is so large I kept getting "Hard drive full" errors.
Strange seeing as how there was 500 gig of space.
In the end I realized that the format of the hard drive
only allows a maximum of four gigabyte files. Yeah,
it's a big picture... ten feet wide actually.

Paradise at the Farmers' Market
This is another shot from last night at the Farmers' Market. I actually spent less time taking pictures than driving the few miles to get there, but I had a good time once I did. Maybe next time I'll get there a little earlier.

Quiet Spot
This is a nice relaxing spot right along Highway 1 in Big Sur. I love the color of the water here. The beautiful blue-green makes me want to grab my Scuba gear. Of course, even though you can't really see it in this shot the waves this day would have made a dive more of an adventure than I'm lookin' for.

Relaxing Spot
This is a nice relaxing spot in Carmel, California. I actually have to turn off the color correction on my scanner to scan these flowers, it does not seem to believe the color of them, it tries to make them pink.

El Paseo Bench
This photo was taken at the same time as the photo of the day for February 5, 2005. I like them both, this one is just a little simpler. Brings out the curves in the bench.

Monterey Garden Path
After stopping at the Monterey Museum of Art we looked around the garden across the street. Apparently Monterey is in the process of restoring many of these small gardens throughout the city. From this view it is hard to believe this is in a very busy part of downtown Monterey.

El Paseo Shadows
This is one of many cool photographs I can thank my art director for. I took this while walking with my best friend on EL Paseo in Palm Desert. She pointed out the shadows from across the street. I would have walked right past them (and I probably did many times.)
