Charlie the Basset Hound
This is one of the reasons I have been a little behind lately. His name is Charlie. Through a really bad chain of events he ended up in the Ventura animal shelter with no hope of adoption. It was our job to go pick him up and take him to one of the Basset Hound Rescues that we volunteer at. As always happens on these trips I was totally attached to him by the time we got there. They said he was five or six years old, but he played like a puppy. I work really hard at a lot of different things, but I can't help feeling that this is one of the few things I do on a regular basis that really matters.

I have to tell you that I have been waiting and praying for this picture to show up. I know it is hard to get another 4-legged family member after losing one as special as Zoe, but I know you won't regret it. I lost my old cat in December (I still had my young cat and my dog) and I was sure that I wouldn't get another. Just a month ago my vet decided I would be the perfect parent for an "unadoptable" older cat (8) with a bad eye who had been kept by a rescue group in a cage (in a shed!) for more than 2 years. Naturally, she came home with me and after hiding for almost a week (I kept her separated from the others in a room by herself) she started to come out when I would sit with her. She is now almost ready to come out into the rest of the house (she has a gate on the door so she can watch what goes on and the younger cat has been spending time with her). She is the most loving animal I have ever had. She just craves attention. Even though I really didn't want another animal, I am so glad she has joined our family. I know that Charlie will love all your excursions and will start to show you new things to photograph. I wish you years of joy and adventure. Mary Ann |

YOU ARE A HOPE FOR THE LITTLE CHARLIE | |

Hi Mila! Thank you for your kind words of encouragement! We love all of the hounds we have helped, and we would bring them all home with us if we could. The first one we brought home with us (Zoe) was our baby for four years. We miss her very much. Give Spy a scratch behind the ears for us! Thank you again for your kind thoughts. -Bill Heller |
