Zaca Wide Angle
Another view of Zaca Lake. Actually, the
same view,
just a wider angle lens. :-D

Laguna Beach Sunset
I was enjoying the sunset with a good friend, talking about cameras and
snapping pictures. It was a really good day!

Santa Barbara Sunset
Like I said before, we don't get a lot of clouds
around here, but when we do it is quite a show.
And I'm very thankful to live in such a beautiful place.

Floating Pads
The thing I like the most about this
picture is the refraction happening at the edge
of the lily pads where they touch the water.
the surface tension of the extremely still water
is grabbing the bottom edge of the pads. Which is causing the
surface of the water to bend. This creates a
refraction, like light going through a lens, giving you the bright edges
around the shadows in the bottom of the fountain.

Zaca Lake
It is amazing how many beautiful places can be right around you
without you even knowing it. Even after living in Santa Barbara
for years I am still finding more photo opportunities.
This is Zaca Lake. I didn't know it was there until
my friend and I took an adult education nature hike there.

Stearns Wharf
This is another of my favorite local spots, Stearns Wharf.
The Wharf actually has a section that branches off and points back to shore.
That is why it looks like this is not connected to the shore.
This was taken near sunset which gave it a nice evening feel that I really like. This print
has been in several shows.

Moonlit Harbor
I am still experimenting with evening photography.
It takes a longer exposure, but I use Fuji Velvia, which
is primarily a daylight film. The saturation makes this
film incredible.

Floating Koi
This was taken at a Botanic Gardens in San Diego
California. The blue one is called a "Soragoi Kawarimono"
but I am not sure about the orange one.
There are a surprising variety of them...

Beach Rock
Some pictures are all about the timing.
I like the fact that the close side of the rock is dry.
I took a couple more pictures on the next waves, but
they are not quite as cool 'cause the rock was already wet.

Snowy Egret
Subjects like this really reward you for being patient.
This Egret was slowly wandering around the edge of the
water looking for a snack. We must have looked like
quite a site, him stalking lunch, me stalking him.
Over about 20 minutes I was able to get really close.

I GOT IT!!
I have been around a lot of dogs in my life. And yet, they
never cease to amaze me with their capacity for all of the
best traits we would love to see in each other. For a while
I thought I had just had the incredible good fortune to have encountered
a few outstanding individuals. I mean, I have seen
my share of dogs that are "problem dogs," untrained and unpleasant
to be around. But, the dogs that have been members of my family
have had something about them. Something that made them seem
like real beings capable of much more than a simple
submissive role. They actually had something to contribute to
the family, and they were given the opportunity to express themselves
and become the true friends they wanted to be.
Now that I am finally owned by the Basset Hound I have dreamed of
for 15 years I am starting to realize that perhaps there was not
as much "special" about our dogs as I originally thought. Perhaps
every dog has that spark of greatness in them, and it is up
to us to nurture it... or to tie it out in the back yard and throw
really bad kibble at it until even the greatest spirit would shrivel.
What are you still doing reading this, go hug your dog!!
(or better yet take them for a romp in the park!)
Don't have a dog!?
Perhaps I can help...
