Moonlit Lily
Saturday was a really good show. I pulled out a few
new Hummingbird images for this weekend and they
were very popular.
This was another image that caught a few eyes.
It was one of the first images I enlarged years ago
when I was just starting to think about showing my photographs.

Backlit Agapanthus
Last week, when I was loading my Jeep for a show,
I was fortunate enough to catch the sun at
a great angle on our little front yard area.
On a Saturday my Hound Dog and I would have
still been quite unconscious at this time.
This is a variety of Lily native to South Africa. It
grows like wild around here, and it's beautiful when
they really get going.

Lily Bud
This is another one of my
"grow your own photo"
series. This was actually in my living room.
I grew the lilies from bulbs I got while on vacation.

Pink Tiger
I have been very happy to find that people really
like pictures of flowers! 'Cause I really love to shoot them!
Not any surprise I guess
but seeing as how I live in a bit of a tourist area
I thought the local attractions (the Harbor,
The Mission,
The Beach) would be of more interest.
The intriguing thing is that the locals
are the ones who are more interested in the local
attractions!

Walking in Carmel
I thought about taking a photo like this before I found the specific
subject. My fish-eye lens is an interesting tool, but you have to
think a little more about the composition when using it.
Since it is so wide compared to a "normal" lens or your normal
point of view, it makes everything look further away.
My idea was to put flowers in the foreground with a larger subject
behind them. Since the lens can make a larger subject less interesting
by including too much. You have nothing to focus on then.
The lens was less than an inch from the flower at the bottom of the photo.

Lily Curves
Another of the beautiful things as close as the back yard.
This was right after the sprinklers went off, on a foggy morning.
The dim light made the background dark and everything a little
softer. But this shot was one of only a few taken as the fog parted a little
which made the drops a little brighter and sharper. To see the difference in the light
you can see another shot here, taken only minutes earlier.

Abstract Lily
Well this was one of the few days I missed
posting. So I'm trying to go back and put something
nice in these little holes.
This photo was taken at the same time as this image.

Lily Drops
So, I was sitting at my computer (as I am told I do too often) when my best friend
said "Hey grab your camera and come look at this!."
Seems that the sprinkler had reached the new Calla Lilies that just came up in the
back yard. About a half hour later and a couple rolls of film I was back at my
computer, but much happier!

Canna Close-up
One of my favorite subjects,
flower closeups. This was actually the
theme of my first show at the Santa Barbara
Public Library in August '04
This one is a special favorite because
the plant was a gift from my mom
over six years ago, and it is still going strong.
