Californian Forest

This is the image in the seagull's glasses from yesterday's photo of the day.

Now before you go sending me hate mail, this is supposed to be FUNNY! The back of the card has information about our beautiful redwood forests...

"Californian Forest - Of course, Californian forests also include some of the tallest trees in the world at Redwood National and State Parks. These trees can grow to over 300 feet tall and reach ages in excess of 2,000 years. Only about 4% of the Redwoods remain since logging became an industry in California in the mid 1800s. Fortunately, most of the remaining old growth Redwoods are protected in state parks or in public land reserves."

Attitude Gull

I liked this photo when I took it. But I had no idea what I could possibly do with it. Then, when I was getting ready for a show one evening I started playing in Photoshop. I decided that the space above the bird was perfect for a little creativity. The way he was walking made him seem very determined, but there was just a little something missing. The reflection in the glasses is the palm trees from another one of my cards.

I was actually able to convince many of the kids at various art shows that I had to bribe the seagull with fish to get him to wear the glasses. :-D

Foggy Gull

This is actually an older shot. I was surprised when I looked and found that I had never used it on the photo of the day. The poles in the background are masts of small catamarans that are on the beach for rent. They were not far from where I was standing to take the picture, that gives you an idea how fast and heavy the evening fog was rolling in.

Thinking of You

I was looking through some of my images and this one was just crying out to be a greeting card. That is how many of my cards are created.

Hovering Bee

If you have been watching the site for a while you know that I like to chase bees. So far this has turned out well for me. I assume my luck will run out eventually, but for now it's making for some really nice shots.

This one even made it to one of my greeting cards.

Mission Lily

There are a million photos of the Mission Santa Barbara out there. Which is all the more reason to look around while you are there to see if there might be something you would miss with the standard "Visitors Bureau" shot.

Icelandic Poppy Closeup

I've had some fun with this image, somehow it seemed like it just wanted to be an Easter card.

Happy Mom's Day!!

Happy Mom's Day!!

This is a particularly fitting place for this greeting. The images on this site would not exist if it were not for the support of my parents. They were crazy enough to let a little kid play with their cameras, and look at the results!

In particular, I remember looking through photos of a recent vacation with my Mom and Dad. I couldn't have been more than about 10 years old. As they were pulling out the photos that were particularly interesting, my mom pointed out that a lot of them were mine. She half-jokingly said that in the future they were going to have to let me take all of the pictures on our vacations.

You never know what is going to stick with someone a couple of decades later.

Thanks MOM... for everything!
