Santa Barbara International Film Festival Opening Night

Tonight is the opening night of the 30th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. This is a shot from the side balcony of the Arlington during last years' opening night film "Mission Blue". In the same vein as Mission Blue the Film Festival will continue thier supoort of pioneers of protecting our beautiful oceans by honouring the entire Cousteau family.

Fisher Stevens, actor turned director handing off the microphone to the star of the evening, Sylvia Earle, at the 29th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival opening night film. Stevens codirected "Mission Blue" along with Robert Nixon, a docuementary looking through the eyes of Dr. Earle at the damage done to our oceans and the life that depends on them... ours. Stevens was clear this evening was about Earle and her mission. The evening was dedicated to the memory of ocenographer and documentary filmmaker Mike DeGruy.

Oceanographer and TED prize winner Dr. Sylvia Earle on the big screen at the Arlington Theatre in "Mission Blue" the opening night film of the 29th Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Mission Blue is a documentary of Dr. Earle's witness to the damage done to our oceans and sealife over the years since she started exploring the wonder of the oceans. It played to a standing room only crowd last night dedicated to the loving memory of ocenographer and doucumentary filmmaker Mike DeGruy.
