Milky Way from the mountains above Santa Barbara
This is the latest in my experimentation capturing the night sky from the mountains above Santa Barbara. The night of the new moon was dark enough to catch an image of the Milky Way. It was an amazing evening, and I will definitely be doing more of this type of work.

| Bill--I really like this image. I've seen shots like this before, but finally set up the tripod and took some night shots on my way back to Colorado from Wyoming. Nice clear skies--the Milky Way was super bright. I always thought these kinds of night shots looked awesome, and figured they must be pretty easy to make. I was wrong! Lots of shutter clicks later I think I came up with one I liked (I was using a red headlamp to light the foreground trees). Still, all of that work and I came away with nothing as nice as your shot. Great work. | |

| Thanks Greg! Yeah, a remote release and a sturdy tripod are my most used tools. I love all of my photography gadgets but those are two things I just could not function without. And still this was pushing it. Tonight was a new moon, I would have loved to try again. Maybe I'll get out tomorrow night, the moon won't be up early enough to cause problems so I still have a few days window. Thanks again!! -Bill |
