Bird of Paradise [Strelitzia reginae]
My neighbor has a beautiful garden. It's amazing how many flowers you can get into a small space. (we only have a few feet to play with around the building.) This was snapped as I was taking the hound for a walk the other day.My best friend was just wondering when Bird of Paradise bloom. I guess this answers that question. :-D

| Hi Barbara! Did you get part of the rhyzome (The big knobby root in the ground)? If so, I would dust any broken surface with rooting hormone to keep fungus out and promote root growth and put it in fresh soil. If you are not in a warm weather location, I would put it in a clean pot. They apparently like to be a little root bound to bloom and they can take a few years to get to the point where they bloom. If you only got part of the plant, and not the rhyzome, it will probably last longest in water. But I doubt you'll be able to get it to root. Home that helps! -Bill Heller |
