Reflective Hummer
This was at the same nursery as the hummer from the other day.
This guy was just being thoughtful in the filtered light.
He was watching me intently as I got closer. He did not seem scared.
He was more curious I think. He kept tilting his head from side to
side. He probably knew the big lumbering beast that was stuck on the
ground could never get close enough to bother him.
I love the way the side lighting shows every feather on his face.

Mimosa Hummer
Last week we had the pleasure of exploring some beautiful
nurseries in Carmel Valley near Monterey. It was a
great place to chase hummers.

Garden Path
There are a bunch of these little pathways in Carmel. Some
of them lead to little shops in the center of the city blocks.
This one lead to a little garden shop that sells all sorts of
plants and garden figurines. One of the cooler things on the path
was the enormous vine that made an archway at the center of the path.
You can see it at the top of the photo with the little red Christmas lights
in it. It was truly a different world compared to the city street at the other end.

Frohe Weihnachten! Natale allegro! Merry Christmas!
This is an amazing little restaurant
where we had a wonderful Christmas dinner today.
The first thing that called our attention
to this it was the Maitre D'.
As we got out of our car the first night we were in Carmel
he came over to the wall under the lamp post and
howled at Zoe.
He was very excited to see her, he explained in a German
accent that he had grown up
with hounds just like her. He then asked us
if we were ready for dinner and told us that he had a
patio where Zoe would be welcome.
We were not ready for dinner then, but he left a
real impression on us. Any place that was that friendly
to our hound had to be ok.
It was a good assumption, the waiters were very friendly
and the food was absolutely delicious. A perfect Christmas
memory! We will be back again for sure!

Carmel Sunset
It's been a crazy couple of weeks.
I was looking through some images to
put a few online and this one seemed appropriate.
This was on the next to last day of
one of our last trips to Carmel.
And I'm feeling like I need a vacation.
Of course, I think I have said that enough
times that I could make that a category
on the Photo of the Day!

Carmel Jasmine
Well we have only been home for a week, but I am ready
for another vacation!
I was not able to determine exactly what kind of Jasmine this
is, there are quite a few. (my botanical expert is asleep on the couch with the hound dog).
But I can tell you it smells even prettier than it looks!

Carmel Beach Fire
The people on the beach look almost insignificant under this
awesome display. And, believe me that is how
it made you feel! And, at the same time, it filled
you with awe.
Some days I see things that make me
wanna kick myself for leaving my camera at home. The days
like this one make up for them many times over!

Lamp
Another image from our sunset walk in
Carmel. I really appreciate it when people have
their cool lamps set to come on early enough in
the evening to get a nice shot of their surroundings. :-D

Sunset Beach Walk
Carmel beach is a beautiful place to watch the sun set.
I took a lot of shots that evening, but this is my favorite.
I wonder what they were talking about.

Carmel Architecture
There are a bunch of little walkways between buildings in
Carmel. They are all lined with little shops and
interesting things. I love to explore them.
With a little bit of luck I will get to explore them
more in the near future!

Relaxing Spot
This is a nice relaxing spot in Carmel,
California. I actually have to turn off
the color correction on my scanner to
scan these flowers, it does not seem to
believe the color of them, it tries to make them
pink.

Orange Calendula
Well this was a hard one to find. Most of the images I found online
that match this flower exactly are labeled "Orange Daisy".
And, I was pretty sure that was not right.
Fortunately my best friend, the botanical genius, was
able to identify it with her trusty
flower guide.

The Yellow Rose of... ummm... Carmel?
This was in a really nice
shopping center along Highway one
in Carmel. They had beautiful landscaping and
one of the best and
most original restaurants we've eaten
at in a long time.

Carmel Lilies
Ahh September was a busy month, and I got a little behind.
When that happens I like to come back and put things in these
spaces for those of you who come looking. (Oh, and if you haven't
found it yet, there is a link in the upper right corner to a
calendar that displays thumbnails of the photos.)
This is a different view on the lilies in
the photo of the day from April 22.
I usually carry a number of lenses with me, especially in a
beautiful place like Carmel. And, I rarely take one shot
from one angle. I have learned from taking photos with my best friend
to explore as many angles as possible.

Walking in Carmel
I thought about taking a photo like this before I found the specific
subject. My fish-eye lens is an interesting tool, but you have to
think a little more about the composition when using it.
Since it is so wide compared to a "normal" lens or your normal
point of view, it makes everything look further away.
My idea was to put flowers in the foreground with a larger subject
behind them. Since the lens can make a larger subject less interesting
by including too much. You have nothing to focus on then.
The lens was less than an inch from the flower at the bottom of the photo.
