House Sparrow [Passer domesticus] Hanging on the side of a rock
I like these guys, they are quite comical. They are not native to the United States, they are actually from Europe and Africa. But they seem to thrive anywhere by mooching off of gullible humans who like them and think they are quite comical.

| I love these birds and they love french fries. For years I would see them in the McDonalds parking lot and share my french fries (oh yes birdie health food) with them...I guess that explains why there are so many now. Beautiful little birds! | |

| baby birds | |
| I was given the opportunity this year to raise 3 english sparrows that had fallen from there nest. They were featherless and very helpless. I couldn't believe these beautiful little birds grew so quickly and in such a short time. I took them back and forth to work everyday for 3 weeks and fed them every half hour to an hour baby food in an eye dropper. The last week I had them they graduated to soaked dog food and seed. They were released a month to the day I found them and are thriving very well. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Knowing I was able to help these helpless babies and release to freedom was very enlightning. |
